CLASS ROSTER 2024

Event Roster
Important Note: We begin our classes tomorrow. Class Schedule
This year we had many events like Flight, Code Busters, Crime Busters, Experimental Design, and Reach for the Stars that were overwhelmingly opted for and those classes are heavily impacted. In order to give more students a chance in the class, we decided to take more students initially (except Flight since it is a build event) who could study and “test in” to the class. Class sizes are huge across most of the events this year, and we are trying to limit it to around 36-38 students so everyone can safely be in the OVMS classrooms. We had previously announced that the testing might be necessitated, and we know as a parent we would not want our child put into an overly-filled classroom. Also, remember our coaches are all volunteers and professionals, not credentialed teachers.
Here are some other details:
2. How these coaches choose to administer the test and the content is up to them.
3. If any student after the above tests doesn't get selected and will end up with only 1 or 2 events we will try to offer an alternative event which has less student strength but no change will be made now
Other housekeeping items:
Again, this week will be bumpy, but we hope all the kids have fun.
We are all excited about this season and the fun begins now!

- We tried our best to accommodate the kids based on their preferences, especially for the 1st and the 2nd selected events
- The cuts were based on these preferences
- We make cuts purely based on preferences given and without our subjective interference. Sometimes the jump between a 3rd Choice event and a 4th Choice event jumps up by 15-20 students!
- We checked individually for every student who was left with 2 after we made the cuts. We offered alternative events only for those students.
- If your student chose 4 or 5 events but was left with 3 events, no changes were made, even if they had selected one of the impacted events, We are not now going to add your child to a 4th event.
- If your student chose only 1, 2, or 3 events but because of their preferences requests did not get an impacted class (for example, if they selected Crime Busters 3rd but with no 4th choice provided), we did not make any manual changes.
- A chart of where we cut off enrollment for each class is attached. We want to be transparent about what we are doing.
- Most competitive schools give an entrance test just to register for the Science Olympiad. We try to make it accessible to all students.
- Please look for specific instructions from your coaches about materials to bring, any changes in timing, etc. The class schedule will always remain on our website and that’s where we will keep the most updated version.
- Based on our conversations with some of the coaches last night:
2. How these coaches choose to administer the test and the content is up to them.
3. If any student after the above tests doesn't get selected and will end up with only 1 or 2 events we will try to offer an alternative event which has less student strength but no change will be made now
Other housekeeping items:
- Drop off and pick up is at the front of the school only – NOT in the back bus loop. This is not allowed per OVMS rules.
- Parents are not allowed in classes and gyms unless the coaches ask for you to be there. Your children are in good hands with these excellent coaches! There is no space in the classrooms and, honestly, your kids don’t want you there anyway!!
- Please pick them up promptly when class is over. Repeatedly leaving your child past class time is unsafe and grounds for expulsion from the program.
- Do help them at home. At this point, most basically need administrative assistants. Help them keep track of their schedules and homework, etc. You are welcome to help your child study.
- Please make sure your student email has permission to be added to google group.
Again, this week will be bumpy, but we hope all the kids have fun.
We are all excited about this season and the fun begins now!
